Salary: Competitive + allowances

Working Hours: Monday – Friday 07:45 – 16:30 (16:15 on Friday), 9‑day fortnight, every 2nd Friday off.

Job Purpose: Lead UPS Engineer – responsible for supporting and managing critical battery backup systems, ensuring on‑time delivery of all tasks, maximizing efficiency, and minimizing disruption to the facility while meeting service level requirements and maintaining a high level of site availability.

About The Role:

  • Ensure technical staff are sufficiently trained and experienced for all tasks.
  • Carry out site visits for service and maintenance (PPM), fault diagnosis, testing, and repairs on all types, makes and manufacturers of UPS, batteries, switchgear, control systems, and associated critical electrical equipment.
  • Document and support corrective actions identified.
  • Support and facilitate specialist subcontractors/vendors during planned, reactive or project tasks, ensuring compliance with site procedures and safety documentation.
  • Issue work instructions and documentation required to complete tasks in accordance with the 12‑week plan.
  • Review 3rd‑party RAMS with basic sanity checks.
  • Carry out battery impedance testing, battery replacements and installations.
  • Ensure all contract documentation is processed, issued, receipted and distributed to appropriate stakeholders, records kept in accordance with contract requirements and contractor processes (via PLOW, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting).
  • Provide first‑line response, diagnosis and resolution for critical equipment.
  • Conduct investigations and inspections of UPS, batteries, switchgear, control systems and associated electrical assets.
  • Carry out installation and commissioning of UPS and battery systems and assist on installations for a wide variety of critical power equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in battery backup systems.
  • Technical qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Strong DC electrical knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to organise and manage own workload.
  • Positive, proactive attitude with ownership of the site.
  • Awareness of critical environments and understanding of risk factors to site and operations.
  • Good knowledge of LV switchgear, generators, cooling systems and UPS systems.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Strong administrative skills with Microsoft Office.
