Are you ready to lead the future of cloud engineering within an organisation that’s transforming its digital landscape? This team is midway through a major cloud modernisation journey and is now searching for a Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to shape the next phase.

If you enjoy guiding others, introducing modern ways of working, and using technology to create meaningful impact, this role offers exactly that.

About the Organisation

You’ll be joining a well-established, mission-driven public body with a strong social and environmental purpose. Their work directly supports communities across the UK by managing essential national services, protecting land and infrastructure, and promoting long-term environmental sustainability. They handle a variety of operational and environmental responsibilities, while also investing in innovative projects — including initiatives that support the UK’s transition toward cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.

Culturally, they are warm, inclusive and values-led. People here feel supported, trusted and encouraged to grow. They champion diversity, celebrate different perspectives, and genuinely care about their teams. If you’re looking for a place where your technical leadership can make a positive difference to people, places and the planet, you’ll feel right at home.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll help shape a cloud-first environment where most applications are already migrated into AWS. Your work will focus on:

  • Designing, building and optimising cloud infrastructure that’s secure, scalable and cost-effective.
  • Leading, developing and supporting a talented team of Cloud Engineers.
  • Driving the migration of the remaining on-prem services into AWS.
  • Embedding DevOps practices, automation and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strengthening resilience, security and operational excellence.
  • Collaborating with architects and senior technology leaders to set best practice standards.

What They’re Looking For

You don’t need to meet every requirement to be considered — what matters most is your mindset, your passion for cloud technology and your ability to lead with empathy and confidence. They’re looking for someone who:

  • Has strong hands-on experience with AWS services and enjoys designing secure, scalable and resilient cloud solutions.
  • Can confidently lead and mentor a team, creating a supportive environment where people feel empowered to learn, grow and do their best work.
  • Understands modern DevOps practices, automation, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD — and is excited to embed these ways of working across the organisation.
  • Brings a collaborative spirit, working closely with architects, engineers and wider stakeholders to solve problems and drive meaningful change.
  • Is comfortable guiding a large-scale cloud migration and improving existing cloud environments through optimisation, governance and best practice.
  • Communicates clearly and calmly, especially when translating technical decisions into language others can understand.
  • Shows sound judgement around security, risk and operational resilience, always striving to protect services and the people who rely on them.
  • Demonstrates curiosity, openness and a willingness to challenge the status quo when it leads to better ways of working.
  • Values inclusivity, integrity and purpose-driven work — aligning with an organisation that genuinely prioritises people, community and environmental impact.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Flexible Working as Standard: Hybrid working with roughly two days a week in the Mansfield office, plus options for flexible hours, compressed weeks, job-share and part-time arrangements. They truly value work–life balance.
  • A Supportive, Inclusive Culture: You’ll be surrounded by people who encourage curiosity, innovation and continuous improvement. It’s a team that appreciates your ideas, your leadership style and your individuality.
  • A Brilliant Overall Package: The total package is valued at £96,700, including an exceptional pension and a wide range of wellbeing, lifestyle and professional development benefits.
