Are you a commercially sharp, relationship-driven Business Development leader with a passion for transport technology and the stamina to win in long-cycle public sector sales? This could be the role you’ve been waiting for. We’re working with a well-established, internationally backed organisation operating at the cutting edge of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and digital infrastructure. With a UK hub based in Nottingham and close ties to a European HQ, this business delivers technology that powers some of the most advanced public transport networks in the country think contactless ticketing, real-time passenger information, and next-generation fleet systems.

Following a record-breaking period of growth and contract wins, they’re now looking for a Head of Business Development to lead commercial activity and take ownership of the pipeline.

What the role looks like:

  • This is a genuine "player-coach" position you’ll be leading the team whilst staying close to the deals.
  • You’ll own high-value public sector tenders end-to-end, shape opportunities ahead of formal procurement, build relationships with transport authorities and operators, and act as the bridge between local market needs and global product teams.
  • Some travel to European offices (primarily Germany) will be part of the role.

What they’re looking for:

  • The Connector: A natural networker who can build strong external relationships whilst collaborating seamlessly across departments and global teams. You don’t just open doors, you keep them open.
  • Patient & Persistent: Major infrastructure contracts don’t close overnight. You’ll need the long-cycle stamina to maintain momentum, manage stakeholder alignment, and protect opportunity positioning over multi-year procurement processes without losing enthusiasm.
  • Technically Curious: You don’t need to be an engineer, but you’ll want to understand how the technology works so you can translate complex capabilities into compelling commercial value. The more you understand it, the better you’ll sell it.
  • Public Sector Savvy: Proven credibility navigating local government procurement is a must. You’ll know how to build trust with transport authorities and operators, and understand the nuances of public sector decision-making.
  • A Human Leader: Open-door, people-first, and genuinely invested in helping your team grow. This is a business that values its people and wants a leader who reflects that.

You’ll also bring:

  • A strong background in transportation technology, electronic ticketing (EPOS), or large-scale technical services
  • Demonstrable success leading bids and tenders in complex, high-value environments
  • Experience shaping strategic opportunities well ahead of formal procurement
  • Ideally based in or commutable to Nottingham

What’s on offer:

  • Salary up to £90,000 + competitive package
  • Nottingham-based, hybrid working
  • International exposure with a collaborative, non-corporate culture
  • A seat at the leadership table during a genuinely exciting growth phase

If this sounds like the kind of challenge you’ve been looking for, I’d love to have a conversation. Drop me a message or apply directly to Kelly Fowler — even if your CV isn’t fully polished yet!
