EMBS Engineering has been exclusively tasked with identifying an experienced individual who can manage their Fabrication & Welding facility, working on a permanent basis. This is a truly exciting opportunity as the Fabrication division has grown from strength to strength over the last 3 years, now housing circa 10 highly talented TIG Welders, that manufacture complex components for high profile customers who operate within predominantly the Oil & Gas, Defence and Nuclear industries. This division has received consistent investment including new technology, equipment, and most recently its own dedicated premises.

The business is going from strength to strength through new client wins and existing customers placing new orders, presenting a fascinating yet challenging time. As a result of this, our client is seeking a talented engineer who possesses a strong Fabrication & Welding background, who has run Fabrication &/or Welding teams, and who is looking for a new career where you can have the autonomy to help grow the division to new heights.

Within this role, you will be responsible for delivering projects to globally recognised customers that operate within the Oil & Gas, Nuclear and Defence industries. You will be responsible for coordinating a team of welding fabricators in manufacturing high quality fabricated and welded parts and will ensure the company remains compliant with EN ISO 3834-2 standards.

Key Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for reviewing, planning and managing the execution of all technical welding activities
  • Identifying and developing new weld procedures as required by project, including management of sourcing equipment, materials and resource
  • Ensuring sufficient resource is available and qualified to perform required welding tasks, this also includes ensuring revalidation of welder qualifications is performed in line with code or client requirements
  • Monitoring performance of welding activities on a monthly basis and developing action plans for continuous improvement
  • Developing instruction to staff through method statements or tool box talks to ensure a right first time approach is implemented
  • Supporting quality or project teams with technical queries or issues found relating to welding, this may include contributing to 8D, Ishikawa, 5 whys and FMEA reviews

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Ideally a HNC in welding & fabrication or a closely related discipline along with relevant experience
  • Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) certification
  • Experience of managing a team and coordinating relatively technical activities
  • Understanding of quality management systems in accordance EN ISO 3834-2 and EN ISO 9001
  • Strong experience working with TIG, MMA, MIG/MAG and FCAW welding processes
  • Experience working with fully mechanised welding equipment (robotic and column & boom systems) would be advantageous
  • Experience of manufacturing equipment for high-integrity projects, desirably in stainless steels, creep-resistant steels, nickel alloys and cast iron
  • IT literacy
  • Experience of managing both internal and external stakeholders (both customers and suppliers)

Desirables:

  • Possess a professional membership status registered with the Engineering Council (CEng, IEng or EngTech)
  • Experience working with resistance and/or power beam welding processes
