About the Company:

Our client is an engineering manufacturing specialist based in the North Nottingham region, supplying high-integrity machined parts, assemblies, and fabrications to sectors such as nuclear, defence, aerospace, and petrochemical. With over 40 years of heritage as part of the UK’s critical supply chain, the company is committed to providing high-quality components within highly regulated industries.

Following a record-breaking year, our client is looking to expand their Purchasing department and introduce a new role dedicated to procuring materials & commodities in a cost-effective manner. As a result, we are in the market for a Technical Buyer to join our client on a permanent basis.

Due to the nature of the markets our client supplies into, all candidates must be UK residents, and DBS checks will be required. Please note we cannot offer visa sponsorship for overseas candidates.

Main Duties

  • Purchase goods, materials, and commodities to ensure that production operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality, delivery lead times, and supplier penalties to ensure continuity of supply
  • Manage the end-to-end purchasing process for engineering materials and services, ensuring timely deliveries while adhering to budget constraints
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to determine procurement needs, specifications, and timelines for various projects
  • Maintain and analyse supplier performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and optimising supplier relationships
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers, ensuring the best value for the company while complying with quality standards
  • Assist in the development and implementation of purchasing policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist in forecasting demand to avoid stock shortages and excess inventory
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and new technologies that may affect purchasing strategies and supplier choices

Ideal Candidate:

  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Buyer within an engineering environment, preferably with exposure to machining, fabrication, and/or welding capabilities.
  • Background working in a material stockist environment would be advantageous
  • Excellent negotiation skills to effectively secure the best prices and terms from suppliers.
  • Proven track record in identifying changes in raw materials and implementing cost-saving opportunities through strategic procurement.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the London Metal Exchange (LME) to navigate market pricing and trends effectively.
  • Familiarity with various raw material types, including sheet, bar, and billet, to ensure appropriate procurement decisions.
