We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Engineer, Overhaul to join a growing energy and infrastructure business supporting critical power generation assets across the Northeast of England.

This is a field-based role focused on the overhaul, maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair of large reciprocating gas engine generator sets. You will be working across multiple operational sites, ensuring maximum reliability, performance, and availability of key generation equipment.

The Role

You will take ownership of planned and reactive engineering works, including full engine overhauls and recommissioning activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overhaul and rebuild reciprocating generator sets
  • Replace key components including cylinder heads, liners, and turbochargers
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and breakdown response
  • Recommission equipment following overhaul and repair works
  • Support and guide operational technicians on site
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with HSQE standards
  • Participate in a call-out rota for emergency breakdown response
  • Manage spare parts usage, stock control, and cost efficiency

Experience Required

  • Strong hands-on experience with reciprocating gas engines or generator sets
  • Background in mechanical maintenance and fault finding
  • Experience in power generation, CHP, heavy plant, or industrial engines
  • Basic electrical understanding (advantageous)
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based role
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with MWM or Cummins engine platforms
  • Field service or mobile engineering background
  • Exposure to landfill gas or specialist fuel systems
