Ember is the UK's first all-electric coach company. We launched in October 2020 and are now running on twelve routes – including Dundee to Glasgow, Inverness to Edinburgh and Edinburgh to Fort William – with several further routes launching in the spring and summer of 2026.
We're seeking a skilled experienced tyre fitter who understands the demands of a large fleet. You need to have experience in tyre fleet management and will join the team that works across our fleet – 98 electric coaches at the moment, and growing fast. You'll be our first specialist fitter and will be a key member of the team that we are building across Scotland.
We are at advanced stages in developing new charging hubs in Livingston and Glasgow, with many more sites in the pipeline. Ember have a specialised hydraulic tyre machine and other equipment, so the physical aspect is not the traditional back-breaking work of the past. The ideal candidate will be experienced, energetic and confident with the passion to stay on top of the latest developments in the industry.
We're seeking a skilled professional who understands the unique demands of large-vehicle tyres – from high-torque wear patterns to load management. If you take pride in precision work and want to be at the forefront of sustainable transport, we want to hear from you. This is a truly unique challenge – our coaches are used more intensively than any other electric vehicles in the world.
We’re looking for a problem-solver who will help to identify and resolve issues quickly, and will relish the challenge of joining a new team that will make our state of the art fleet the best-maintained in the country with the lowest downtime.
Responsibilities:- Fit, remove, balance, and rotate tyres on electric buses across the fleet.
- Carry out thorough tyre inspections, assessing tread depth, sidewall integrity, and pressure readings in line with DVSA standards.
- Manage tyre replacement schedules, ensuring full compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Operate tyre mounting and regrooving equipment, wheel balancers, and torque tools to manufacturer-specified settings.
- Monitor and record tyre performance data with precision, flagging all issues and abnormal wear patterns.
- Liaise with fleet mechanics and workshop supervisors to plan downtime and minimise disruption to service operations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment in line with Health & Safety legislation.
- Complete all required job records, inspection records, and maintenance logs accurately and promptly.
We use technology heavily in the business, primarily building our own software systems. You'll need to be tech-savvy, open to learning new systems and comfortable using remote diagnostics.
Requirements:- Proven experience as a tyre fitter, with a background in heavy vehicles, PSVs, or bus/coach fleets.
- Demonstrable knowledge of large commercial tyre systems.
- Sound understanding of load index, speed ratings, and tyre pressure management.
- Ability to read and interpret tyre wear data and relate findings to drivetrain and suspension factors.
- Full UK driving licence (Category D or D1 desirable).
- Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
- Familiarity with all relevant aspects of DVSA compliance.
- IMI or City & Guilds qualification in tyre fitting or vehicle maintenance.
- Experience working on or around electric vehicles, with an understanding of high-voltage safety protocols.
- EV awareness training or a recognised high-voltage safety certification (e.g. IMI Level 2 EV).
- Experience with TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems) diagnostics and reset procedures.
- Previous work within a local authority or national bus operator environment.
