The Associate Director Corporate Tax will play a leadership role within the global tax organization, helping to build and continuously improve a best-in-class global tax function. Will serve as a strategic tax partner to cross-functional stakeholders, primarily across EMEA and APAC, including Finance, Business Development and Business Unit leaders, ensuring tax considerations are embedded in business decisions and risks are proactively identified and mitigated.
Key Responsibilities:- Own all aspects of international tax reporting and compliance for embecta’s non-U.S operations (primarily EMEA and APAC), including:
- Preparation and review of quarterly and annual ASC 740 (U.S. GAAP) tax provisions, including FIN 48, valuation allowances, APB 23, and tax account reconciliations.
- Tax provisions for local statutory financial statements.
- Oversight of direct tax return preparation and review; leadership of related tax audits.
- Oversight of indirect tax compliance, filings and audits.
- Support U.S. tax reporting requirements for non-U.S operations, including Forms 5472 and 8858, and calculations related to GILTI, Subpart F and foreign tax credits.
- Management of withholding tax obligations and information reporting requirements.
- Oversee and manage co-sourced service providers to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality delivery of tax compliance and reporting.
- Monitor global tax law changes and business developments to ensure accurate tax provisions and proactive management of risks and opportunities.
- Support global tax planning initiatives and analysis, with a primary focus on EMEA and APAC.
- Assist in developing and executing a comprehensive global tax planning strategy to enhance tax efficiency while managing exposure and controversy risk.
- Provide input on transfer pricing policies, including reviewing the adequacy of transfer pricing analyses and documentation, and advising on the operational implementation of policies across international regions.
- Review proposed transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, at early stages and recommend tax-efficient structures.
- Maintain a deep understanding of global legal entities, transaction flows, risks, and functional profiles; advise on intercompany transactions, agreements, and relationships.
- Support global cash management initiatives and capital structure optimization.
- Continuously challenge existing approaches and generate innovative tax planning ideas.
- Partner closely with the U.S. Tax team to ensure accurate reporting of international operations and transactions throughout the year.
- Coordinate and oversee tax rulings, tax credits (e.g., R&D), refund claims, protests, and administrative appeals.
- Monitor compliance with tax rulings, incentives, and tax holiday requirements.
- Enhance central visibility and control over global tax planning processes in collaboration with the U.S. tax team.
- Support the development of shared service center capabilities related to tax planning in international regions.
- Develop, document, and maintain tax-related process flows and internal controls in compliance with SOX 404 requirements.
- Act as primary point of contact for external auditors and tax and legal advisors for international tax matters.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related.
- 15+ years of tax and leadership experience, highly preferably in a mix of public accounting and multinational corporate environment, preferably in a group that is a US headquartered MNC.
- Experience with legal tax structures for corporations.
- Expertise for new and emerging global tax issues.
- Experience at a small-cap multinational preferred.
- Experience with SOX 404 requirements, including design and implementation.
- Extensive experience in working within EMEA tax rules, regulations and tax authorities, working knowledge of US international tax rules and deeper understanding of other foreign jurisdiction tax rules.
- Experience with indirect taxes (i.e. VAT, GST, etc.).
- A strong work ethic and passion for being hands-on in problem-solving and execution.
- An entrepreneurial mindset with ability to roll-up sleeves and dig into the details.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
- Executive presence with excellent analytical skills, written and oral communication skills, presentation skills, and the ability to clearly convey tax concepts to senior management & global audiences.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex tax matters to internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated track record of success with prior positions reflecting increasing responsibility.
