Emanuel School is looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Teacher of Mathematics to join its successful and high-profile Mathematics Department.
This is an opportunity to teach motivated pupils with high aspirations in a thriving department, where strong subject knowledge, intellectual curiosity and a genuine enthusiasm for Mathematics are at the heart of teaching.
You will teach across a stimulating and ambitious Mathematics curriculum, helping pupils to develop the knowledge, confidence and independence to fulfil their potential. Academic outcomes are strong: nearly 50% of pupils achieved a grade 9 in IGCSE Mathematics in 2026, while more than 70% of grades in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A level were A*–A. Mathematics is also a particularly popular sixth-form subject, with 59% of pupils currently studying it at A level.
Beyond the classroom, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a broad programme of mathematical enrichment, including UKMT challenges, the Hans Woyda Competition, trips, external lectures and other activities designed to stretch and inspire pupils. You will also play an active part in the wider life of Emanuel through pastoral responsibilities, co-curricular activities and outreach.
About you
You will have excellent subject knowledge and the ability to bring Mathematics to life through inspiring, challenging and well-planned teaching. You will be able to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents, communicate effectively and contribute enthusiastically to the wider school community.
Applications are welcomed from teachers at all stages of their career, including ECTs as well as experienced teachers.
Working at Emanuel
There is a genuine buzz at the school. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school.
Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining the school should expect to do so. There’s a strong sense of community and source of friendship. From the briefing to all staff, to the half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, there’s ongoing dialogue about the school’s aims. Colleagues nominate their peers for termly ACE awards to acknowledge those who best embody the school’s values and a whole staff wellbeing day ensures a collegiate and supportive environment between support and teaching staff.
We aim to look after our staff too. We have an appraisal scheme with a focus on the employee’s professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we’re committed to supporting staff wellbeing. On a more practical level, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.
The closing date for applications is Monday 12 October 2026.
Interviews may take place before the closing date and the school may close the vacancy early if a suitable candidate is appointed, so early applications are encouraged.
Please note that this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and is subject to a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. Emanuel School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
