EM Tuition is seeking a 1:1 Mentor (SEMH/Behaviour) to support children and young people across Chelmsford and surrounding areas - within 20 miles. This is a highly rewarding role working outside of a traditional classroom environment, supporting learners who are unable to access mainstream education. You will work on a one-to-one basis, helping students build confidence, regulate emotions, and re-engage with learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver personalised 1:1 mentoring sessions
  • Support learners with SEMH needs, anxiety, and behavioural challenges
  • Build positive, trusting relationships using a calm and consistent approach
  • Promote emotional wellbeing, engagement, and resilience
  • Produce clear session reports
  • Work alongside professionals including social workers and therapists
  • Support transitions back into education where appropriate

About the Learners

You will support children and young people with needs such as:

  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health)
  • EBSA (school avoidance)
  • Autism
  • Trauma and anxiety
  • Learning difficulties

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people (age 4-25 with EHCP)
  • Experience delivering 1:1 support
  • Understanding of trauma-informed approaches
  • Calm, patient, and resilient nature
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently (QTS or teaching not required)
