Being a Dietitian is so much more than just knowing what foods to eat; it's creating a nutritional bespoke plan that gives some of the most vulnerable people the energy and determination to build a brighter future. You will join the team as a Dietitian, working 24 hours at Stockwood House in Luton. With experience from the NHS and/or private sector, you will manage a complex caseload, build individual rapports with service users to learn about their health concerns, goals and dietary restrictions and preferences, and create a healthy nutrition plan. You will deliver and contribute to the development of specialist treatment plans and pathways, maintaining close contact with local community teams. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of the service, offering assessment, formulation and treatment to people and their families/carers. You will act as a key link between the nursing team and the catering department, leading on the management of the dining room and nutrition support strategies on the unit. You will be working at three care homes (Ellenbrook House, Stockwood House and Talbot House) in Luton, in close proximity to each other.
Responsibilities
- Assessing service users' weight and advising on weight management, calories, and special meal plans.
- Working as an autonomous dietetic practitioner to carry a complex inpatient and outpatient caseload, using evidence-based and people-focused principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in service users.
- Conducting pre-admission screenings for new referrals and planning future interventions.
- Liaising with the hospital catering department to review menus, allergen lists, portion sizes and special menus.
- Supporting in the development and co-facilitation of group activities and staff training.
- Providing weekly progress reviews and feedback to the multidisciplinary team in ward rounds.
- Carrying out one-to-one nutrition counselling sessions to explore eating behaviours, beliefs, attitudes about food and health, rationale for food choices, factors affecting eating behaviour and nutrition status; including stage of change and barriers to behaviour change.
- Delivering the Nourish to Flourish psychoeducation group to help patients understand eating disorders and critically explore beliefs about food and bodies.
- Carrying out one-to-one family support to help families understand the relationship between food and health and strategies to support eating at home.
- Maintaining professional competence in line with HCPC requirements.
Qualifications
- HCPC registered
- BSc in Dietetics or postgraduate diploma in Dietetics
- Post-qualification training
- Post-qualifying experience of working with people with eating disorders, ideally in an inpatient setting
- Knowledge and understanding of eating disorders
- Commitment to maintaining a high level of professional competence
