An established secure communications organisation is looking to appoint a technically strong Security Engineer with a solid background in data communications, IP networking, network protection, and secure infrastructure. This role will suit someone who can act as a key technical security specialist across satellite communications, secure connectivity networks, and enterprise infrastructure. The successful candidate will support internal engineering teams, security operations, and defence/enterprise clients across multiple geographies.
Network Security & Infrastructure Protection:
- Act as the technical security champion for satellite communications, airtime, and secure infrastructure.
- Configure, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade security appliances, firewalls, secure gateways, and VPN tunnels.
- Work with technologies such as Fortinet, Cisco, secure network gateways, and satellite-linked infrastructure.
- Understand how supplier security technologies integrate into wider network infrastructure and global corporate services.
- Support the full security lifecycle of infrastructure, from deployment through to monitoring, updates, patching, and hardening.
- Monitor global network traffic for anomalies, support internal security incidents, and help implement threat mitigation strategies.
- Work with Systems Engineering teams on security product evaluations, penetration testing feedback, and secure infrastructure rollouts.
- Capture technical requirements for internal and external secure software or network development projects.
- Manage internal security-related projects while balancing priorities during high-demand or critical incident periods.
- Translate complex security features and vulnerability assessments into clear technical compliance reports and remediation guides.
- Keep technical teams and wider business functions updated on threat landscapes, security capabilities, and system updates.
- Ensure network infrastructure aligns with maritime security frameworks, UK government policies, and defence-level operational standards.
- Produce internal technical documentation, secure configuration guides, FAQs, and incident response process layouts.
Support & Internal Training:
- Provide tier-3 technical security support in engineering meetings, troubleshooting calls, and customer architecture reviews.
- Deliver internal security awareness training and technical handovers for network engineers, support teams, and back-office functions.
- Coordinate Technical Security Bulletin distribution alongside local management for emergent CVEs or critical software patches.
- Carry out regular security audits and product vulnerability comparisons.
Proven Security Engineering experience:
- Strong knowledge of IP networking, data communications, and routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
- Experience managing security vendors and assessing hardware/software protection capabilities.
- Experience producing technical security documentation, architecture diagrams, network policies, or remediation plans.
- Familiarity with Microsoft enterprise environments, including identity access management, secure messaging, or Active Directory.
- Calm, professional, security-focused approach.
- Comfortable handling sensitive data and applying sound analytical judgement.
- Willingness to learn quickly and support emergency escalation hours where required.
- Familiarity with modern digital satellite communications, VSAT networks, teleport infrastructure, or secure telecoms environments.
- Security and networking certifications such as CCNA Security, Fortinet NSE, CCNP Security, Security+, CISSP or equivalent.
- Experience within satellite communications, telecoms, network security, defence, government, or another highly secure data environment.
- Hands-on exposure to Linux and Windows Server secure operating system environments.
- Experience supporting international network infrastructure or government/defence contracts.
- Experience working across infrastructure, engineering, security, and support teams.
Must be eligible and willing to undergo UK security vetting, including SC or DV where required. Company laptop and mobile phone provided.
