We are supporting a leading international provider of satellite communications, systems integration and mission-critical technology solutions in the search for a System Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Surrey. This opportunity would suit someone with a strong background in electrical and mechanical systems design who enjoys working across complex engineering environments involving satellite communications, maritime technology, defence and enterprise infrastructure projects. The environment is hands-on, fast-paced and highly technical, with exposure to both commercial maritime and government-related projects across global operations.
The Role:
- Working closely with engineering and project delivery teams, you will be responsible for producing high-quality electrical and mechanical design drawings, supporting systems integration projects and helping shape engineering standards and design processes across the business.
- You will play a key role in turning design concepts into practical engineering outputs while ensuring compliance with relevant standards and manufacturing requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce detailed 2D and 3D electrical and mechanical drawings
- Develop design concepts from first principles
- Create and maintain engineering documentation and drawing packs
- Produce drawings for electrical enclosures, control panels and 19” rack systems
- Generate STEP files and technical outputs for customers and manufacturing teams
- Support system integration and project engineering activities
- Ensure designs comply with recognised industry and ISO standards
- Work closely with internal engineering, operations and project teams
- Assist with CAD software evaluation and future engineering design processes
- Produce Visio and supporting technical diagrams where required
Requirements:
- Experience producing electrical and mechanical engineering drawings in a professional environment
- Strong understanding of manufacturing techniques and material properties
- Experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD or similar
- Exposure to electrical CAD packages such as SEE Electrical, ETAP or equivalent is highly desirable
- Knowledge of BS8888 drawing standards
- Understanding of EMC and LVD technical standards
- Familiarity with BS7671 wiring regulations and electrical safety standards is advantageous
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach
- Comfortable working in a changing technical environment
- Ability to obtain UK SC Security Clearance
