Industry: Water, Environmental Infrastructure & Construction
Employment Type: Full-Time
The Opportunity:
We are recruiting an experienced Construction Quality Manager to join a major infrastructure delivery programme within the UK water and environmental engineering sector. This is an opportunity to take responsibility for construction quality, technical assurance and compliance across a portfolio of infrastructure projects designed to improve environmental performance, wastewater management and long-term asset sustainability. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering, construction and delivery teams, you will ensure that projects meet the required technical, regulatory and quality standards from initial design through construction, commissioning and final handover.
Experience within the water or wastewater sector would be highly advantageous. However, we are equally interested in candidates from major civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure and complex construction environments who can demonstrate strong technical quality management experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead second-line quality assurance activities across construction, engineering and commissioning operations.
- Review and oversee construction quality plans, technical assurance procedures and quality management systems.
- Ensure compliance with contractual specifications, engineering drawings, regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Monitor Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), technical inspections, testing activities and quality documentation.
- Conduct site inspections, quality audits and technical reviews to identify potential risks and non-conformances.
- Oversee Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), corrective actions, snagging registers and close-out activities.
- Ensure documentation and technical assurance records are accurate, complete and auditable.
- Assess the quality performance of contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and delivery partners.
- Support construction and commissioning teams in achieving compliant, right-first-time project delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve quality processes, minimise defects and strengthen operational performance.
- Provide quality assurance reporting, recommendations and updates to senior programme stakeholders.
- Ensure appropriate health, safety and environmental controls are reflected throughout construction and commissioning.
Experience & Qualifications:
Essential:
- Significant experience in construction quality management, technical assurance, civil engineering or infrastructure delivery.
- Typically 5–10+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, engineering specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience implementing or auditing Quality Management Systems (QMS), including ISO 9001 principles.
- Practical knowledge of ITPs, NCRs, construction inspections, quality audits and corrective actions.
- Experience working with contractors, multidisciplinary engineering teams and project stakeholders.
- Understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements within construction environments.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, resolve technical issues and drive continuous improvement.
Desirable:
- Previous involvement in water, wastewater, utilities or environmental infrastructure programmes.
- Experience of wastewater asset commissioning and handover.
- Experience working across large-scale infrastructure programmes involving multiple delivery partners.
- Professional certifications such as ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, CQI or CIOB.
What We're Looking For:
We are particularly interested in someone who understands construction delivery beyond paperwork and compliance procedures. You should be comfortable challenging contractors, identifying quality risks before they become costly problems and working closely with engineering and site teams to achieve consistent standards. A background in the water industry would be beneficial, but candidates from other technically demanding construction and infrastructure sectors are encouraged to apply.
Salary & Benefits:
- £75,000 – £85,000 annual salary
- Car allowance
- Pension
- Additional employee benefits
- Hybrid working arrangements
- Opportunity to contribute to significant environmental infrastructure improvements
Interested? If you have a strong construction quality or technical assurance background and are interested in working on major infrastructure projects, we would welcome your application. Please submit your CV, including your current location, salary expectations and availability.
