Elvet Recruitment is delighted to be working in partnership with a leading UK infrastructure and construction contractor to recruit a Document Controller to join their team in the Tyne & Wear area.
Our client has secured significant long-term work within the water sector, supporting a major infrastructure investment programme across the North East.
With substantial projects planned over the coming years, this is an excellent opportunity to join an established organisation working on high-profile infrastructure projects.
The Document Controller will play a key role in supporting project teams by ensuring documentation and project information is accurately processed, controlled, distributed, stored, and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
This is a predominantly office-based role, offering a hybrid working arrangement and the opportunity to work alongside experienced project, engineering, and information management teams within a large-scale infrastructure environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Managing the receipt, processing, registration, filing, distribution, and archiving of project documentation.
- Maintaining accurate document registers and ensuring documentation is correctly recorded and easily retrievable.
- Managing document revisions and ensuring the latest approved versions are available to relevant project teams.
- Supporting the full document lifecycle from creation and review through to approval, distribution, and archiving.
- Administering electronic document management systems, including maintaining appropriate access and permissions.
- Working with systems such as Project Wise, Share Point and other electronic document management platforms.
- Coordinating the flow of information between project managers, engineers, site teams, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Ensuring drawings, reports, correspondence, technical documentation, and project information are distributed accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Carrying out quality checks and audits to ensure documentation meets company, project, and regulatory requirements.
- Preparing reports relating to document status, compliance, distribution, and project information.
- Supporting project teams with document control procedures and best practice.
- Identifying opportunities to improve document control processes, efficiency, and accuracy.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience within Document Control, Information Management, Project Administration, or a similar role.
- Experience within construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, engineering, or another technical environment would be advantageous.
- Understanding of document control principles and the document lifecycle.
- Experience using electronic document management systems, with knowledge of Project Wise, Share Point and/or Forma (ACC) advantageous.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence liaising across project teams and external stakeholders.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider project team.
- A proactive approach with a willingness to learn new systems and processes.
- Understanding of information security, data protection, and document confidentiality would be beneficial.
