Are you an organised and proactive Administrator looking for a varied role within an established and growing business? Do you enjoy keeping things running smoothly, working closely with senior management and taking ownership of a wide range of administrative responsibilities? Elvet Recruitment is delighted to be working in partnership with an established and expanding surfacing and construction business to recruit an Administrator to join their busy office team. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and confident administrator to take on a varied, hands-on role supporting the Office Manager, Managing Directors and wider administration team. You’ll be involved across quotations, purchasing, customer enquiries, transport administration, finance support and general office coordination.

The successful candidate will be professional, approachable and confident, with a proactive attitude and the ability to get stuck in. This is a close-knit team looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, takes pride in their work and can confidently manage their own workload.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Responding to incoming email enquiries and distributing or actioning them appropriately
  • Answering incoming telephone calls and dealing with enquiries professionally
  • Preparing and typing customer quotations and ensuring these are issued promptly
  • Saving quotations and relevant documentation to the shared drive
  • Setting up new works files and obtaining purchase orders
  • Checking contracts and payment terms and liaising with Finance regarding credit checks where required
  • Obtaining prices and placing orders for materials, plant, tools, fuel and other requirements
  • Raising purchase orders and managing supplier enquiries and delivery queries
  • Ordering office supplies, PPE and other general requirements
  • Providing administrative support to the transport department
  • Scheduling MOTs, vehicle inspections and other transport-related requirements
  • Liaising with fitters regarding transport administration and vehicle requirements
  • Supporting the Managing Directors with typing, reports, appointments and general administration
  • Updating supplier price lists and maintaining accurate records
  • Gathering content for the company website and social media
  • Providing general support to colleagues across the administration team
  • Using Sage and other company systems to maintain accurate information and records
  • Taking ownership of new or additional administrative tasks as the business continues to grow

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience within an administration, office support, sales administration, purchasing or similar role
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable dealing with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office
  • Experience using Sage would be advantageous
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
  • Proactive approach with the confidence to use your own initiative
  • Professional, reliable and approachable manner
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a small team
  • A “can-do” attitude and willingness to get stuck in
  • Previous experience within construction, surfacing, transport or a related industry would be advantageous

The Details:

  • Location: North East – on the border of Tyne & Wear and Northumberland
  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm
  • Role Type: Full-time, permanent
  • Salary: Up to £28,000 DOE
  • Working Environment: Fully office-based
  • Reporting To: Office Manager
  • Team: Small, close-knit administration team
  • Systems: Sage
  • No direct reports
