Elvet Recruitment is delighted to be working with a well-established civil engineering contractor to recruit an HR Assistant to join their HR team in Teesside.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR Administrator looking for their next step, or someone with strong administration and people-focused experience who is looking to develop their career within Human Resources.

Working as part of the HR team, you will provide essential administrative support across a broad range of HR activities, including recruitment, onboarding, payroll administration, employee records, absence management, and employee relations.

The successful candidate will be highly organised, approachable, and confident dealing with employees and managers at all levels.

You will be comfortable handling confidential information, managing multiple priorities, and working in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing day-to-day administrative support to the HR team across a range of HR activities.
  • Supporting the recruitment process, including preparing adverts, coordinating interviews, arranging pre-employment checks, and maintaining candidate records.
  • Assisting with the onboarding and induction of new employees, ensuring all relevant documentation is completed accurately.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR systems.
  • Supporting payroll administration by providing accurate and timely information relating to new starters, leavers, absence, holidays, and other employee changes.
  • Monitoring and maintaining absence records, supporting managers with absence-related administration where required.
  • Assisting with employee relations processes, including preparing documentation and coordinating meetings.
  • Responding to HR queries from employees and managers in a professional and timely manner.
  • Preparing HR documentation, letters, reports, and correspondence.
  • Supporting the administration of holidays, sickness, family leave, and other employee-related processes.
  • Ensuring HR records and documentation are maintained accurately and in line with company procedures.
  • Maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information.
  • Supporting HR projects, initiatives, and continuous improvement activities as required.
  • Working closely with managers and other departments to provide an efficient and responsive HR service.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience within an HR, HR Administration, Personnel, or Business Administration role.
  • Alternatively, strong administration experience with a genuine interest in developing a career within HR.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling employee information and documentation.
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • A professional, approachable, and proactive manner.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider HR team.
  • Experience within construction, civil engineering, engineering, or another fast-paced industry would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • An interest in developing your knowledge and career within HR.
