Elvet Recruitment has been appointed to recruit a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor on behalf of an established house builder based in County Durham. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and dynamic team, offering longâterm career development in a thriving business.
About the Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of residential developments consisting of timberâframe dwellings and a small apartment block. You will play a key role in budgeting, cost control, subcontractor management, and financial reporting, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare draft and site start budgets for allocated developments.
- Produce quarterly valuations and material costâtoâcomplete exercises.
- Manage subcontractor payments and final accounts, ensuring proper signâoff.
- Issue subcontract orders in line with company policy and required documentation.
- Conduct onâsite measurements and assess contractor payments.
- Attend and contribute to meetings with internal teams and external contractors.
- Oversee subcontractor performance and maintain trade specifications.
- Price customer extras and liaise with the sales team as needed.
- Manage the Professional Fees Budget and assist with material buying.
- Support land appraisals through takeâoffs and cost input.
About You
We are looking for a commercially astute and detailâoriented professional with:
- Proven experience in quantity surveying within residential construction.
- Strong mathematical and problemâsolving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Xpedeon and Viewpoint/4Projects is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage your own workload and contribute to wider team goals.
- Solid understanding of surveying, estimating, and financial return strategies.
- Experience with cost reporting, procureâtoâpay systems, and document management.
