Hours of Work

Term-time only; 1 day per week (Tuesdays or Wednesdays); hours negotiable.

About the School

Eltham College is a highly successful independent day school in south‑east London, educating boys and girls aged 7 to 18 across both Junior and Senior Schools. With over 800 students in the Senior School and around 260 pupils in the Junior School, the College is heavily oversubscribed. Since 2020, girls have joined Years 3 and 7, mirroring the co‑educational Sixth Form. The school emphasizes academic, pastoral and co‑curricular excellence and enjoys an outstanding reputation.

Position Overview

The Headmaster and CEO of Eltham College Family of Schools seeks a compassionate, experienced and qualified School Counsellor to join the wellbeing team, stationed in the Foxbury Medical and Wellbeing Centre. The counsellor will provide a confidential counselling service supporting the wellbeing of Senior School students, a service that plays a central role in school life.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual support and employ therapeutic interventions for a range of issues affecting students.
  • Guide and support young people through an important stage of their development, promoting academic, social, emotional and psychological wellbeing.
  • Manage the appointment system based on student need.
  • Offer advice to staff and/or parents where appropriate.
  • Receive referrals from the Lead Nurse or Heads of Section for counselling.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience as a School Counsellor in a secondary school setting.
  • Relevant professional qualification in counselling or psychology.
  • Compassionate and skilled in providing confidential support.
