The Headmaster and CEO of Eltham College Family of Schools is seeking to appoint a highly professional teacher to join a successful and committed Design Technology department at Eltham College. The successful person should have the ability and commitment to enhance the life of an ‘all through’ school from Year 3 to Year 13, which has a strong academic ethos in the Senior School, and to work effectively and collaboratively in a team dedicated to further developing the College’s curriculum.
All members of staff are also expected to contribute to the pastoral care of a group of students usually as a tutor. Similarly, the emphasis on activities outside the classroom means that an effective and varied contribution to the co-curricular programme is also required.
The Design and Technology department at Eltham College has grown significantly over the last few years whilst maintaining excellent academic results. It is the most popular creative subject in the school with nine sets at GCSE and three sets in Sixth form. The pupils study the AQA Design and Technology specification at GCSE and AQA Product Design at A Level. The five-year results average is impressive with 91% A*-A at A Level, and 97% 9/8/7 at GCSE. This is facilitated through four full-time members of teaching staff and one full-time technician. Students go on to study relevant disciplines in Engineering, Design and Architecture, with destinations at Universities such as Imperial, Oxbridge, MIT, Bath, Brunel and Loughborough.
The department is exceptionally well resourced, with eight 3D printers, three laser cutters, CNC embroidery and routers alongside traditional equipment such as centre lathes and metal or woodworking machinery, a range of sewing machines and sublimation printer. We have an extensive range of software used by the pupils, including the latest versions of Solidworks, Techsoft Design and Adobe Creative Suite.
Eltham College is a highly successful independent day school in south-east London, educating boys and girls aged 7 to 18 across both Junior and Senior Schools. The College has grown considerably over recent years: there are now over students in the Senior School and around pupils in the Junior School and places are heavily oversubscribed. Since girls have been able to join Years 3 and 7, mirroring the Sixth Form which has been coeducational for over 45 years. The school places an equal emphasis on academic, pastoral and co-curricular excellence and has an outstanding reputation in all three areas as well as for the friendly, unpretentious nature of daily life.
A highly competitive salary is available, together with a clear programme of staff development and opportunities for promotion. Accommodation may also be available.
Application closing date: 8am on Friday 13 March. Interviews to take place on Wednesday 18 March. Suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date and Eltham College reserves the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.
