We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to head our Technical function at Elsoms Seeds, reporting to the Managing Director. This role covers the full “Seed-In to Seed-Out” process, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and innovation across agricultural and vegetable seed activities. You will play a key role in shaping safety, quality, and sustainability standards while supporting our commercial strategy and reputation for delivering high-quality seed to growers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall Safety & Technical strategy, setting and maintaining robust standards across seed intake, processing, treatment, packaging, and outbound quality.
- Ensure full compliance with UK and International seed regulations, environmental legislation, and health & safety requirements.
- Drive technical innovation to improve processes, enhance seed quality, and support business growth.
- Manage and develop the Technical Team, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee Quality Control and Quality Assurance programmes, including internal audits, testing, and non-conformance management.
- Define and maintain standards for seed processing and treatment, ensuring compliance with PPP regulations.
- Lead market access and regulatory liaison, including variety registration and statutory trials.
- Champion sustainability initiatives across technical operations.
Qualifications/Experience
- ESSENTIAL - Degree in Agricultural Science, Seed Technology, Plant Science, Quality Management, or equivalent experience.
- IOSH Managing Safely (minimum requirement); HACCP, Lead Auditor, NEBOSH, QMS desirable.
- Minimum 5 years leading a technical or quality function in a commercial environment.
- Strong knowledge of seed processing, treatment, QC systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Approachable, flexible, and a strong role model for company values.
- Passionate about seed quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.
