About The Role

Reporting to the VP, Global Commercial Strategy, Elsevier Healthcare Education, the Manager, Commercial Strategy will support the global commercial strategy for EHE’s portfolio of Databases and Tools.

The Manager, Commercial Strategy will lead high-impact commercial strategy workstreams, apply structured problem-solving, conduct data-driven analysis, and leverage strategic frameworks to evaluate market opportunities, develop go-to-market strategies, address complex internal commercial challenges, and design revenue models that drive sustainable growth.

The Manager will support the VP in prioritizing product investments and planning customer testing for new products/markets, and will work closely with Product, Corporate Strategy, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success to maximize revenue growth, customer penetration, and long-term value creation across global markets.

This role focuses on leading discrete strategic commercial workstreams and analyses that support portfolio optimization.

The individual will bring experience in B2B and/or B2C digital business models and monetization, applying strategic frameworks and functional knowledge to assess commercial opportunities, solve complex business problems, and develop recommendations that inform portfolio decisions.

The role requires the ability to work independently across multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and adapt approaches as business needs evolve.

Responsibilities

  • Leading strategic commercial workstreams that shape Databases & Tools' portfolio — analyzing information and insights to influence where to invest, expand, or sunset — in line with EHE's growth goals.
  • Leverages existing strategic frameworks—or develops new ones—to inform, guide, and track portfolio decisions.
  • Assessing strategic-fit and revenue potential through a data-driven approach to shape commercial strategy recommendations.
  • Researching market trends, customer needs, competitive dynamics, and emerging technologies, using data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Evaluating global investment opportunities and regional prioritization, aligning recommendations across markets with local pricing, regulatory, and customer considerations.
  • Partnering with Product and Strategy leadership to ensure market insights, customer needs, and willingness-to-pay inform product roadmaps.
  • Leading workstreams on business model innovation — subscription, licensing, data-as-a-service, and platform monetization — translating competitive intelligence and customer insights into pricing and monetization recommendations across regions.
  • Building revenue models grounded in customer research and monetization strategy, securing Sales and Product alignment through execution.
  • Supporting the VP in identifying and developing partnerships, services, and licensing opportunities that expand market reach and product value.
  • Working independently across multiple concurrent workstreams, adapting quickly to shifting priorities with minimal oversight.

Requirements

  • Have 5-8 years of business / corporate strategy, and/or consulting experience with a global perspective.
  • Experience partnering with and influencing cross-functional teams across global markets; comfortable working in a matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic commercial workstreams or small projects independently, adapting quickly to shifting priorities and ambiguous situations.
  • Have exceptional, structured problem-solving and strategic analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable business recommendations; advanced proficiency in Excel and Power Point.
  • Display excellent communication skills, able to distill complex analyses into clear, compelling findings and present to senior leadership.
  • Have understanding of Saa S platforms, data-driven products, platform ecosystems, and subscription-based economics.
  • Have a background in management consulting or corporate strategy highly valued, with strength in shaping strategic thinking and business case development.
  • Experience in healthcare or medical education is highly valued, but not required.
