About Our Team

The Lancet Oncology is part of The Lancet's family of world‐renowned medical journals committed to publishing the best science for better lives. We are an international team, handling high‐quality research, reviews, commissions, commentaries, and bespoke events to drive thought leadership across all aspects of cancer control. We build close relationships with research communities to ensure we offer a personalised service to authors while publishing exciting, interesting, and thought‐provoking content. We also undertake considerable community engagement and political activities to leverage change.

About The Role

As an in‐house Senior Editor, you will assist in the organisation and preparation of print and online versions of The Lancet Oncology.

  • Commission comment, review, and feature content as necessary.
  • Editorial writing.
  • Organise peer review of research articles and reviews.
  • Sub‐edit material from all sections of the journal to improve clarity of expression, and to conform to journal style, and the limits of the space available.
  • Develop and maintain links with the medical research communities to solicit high‐quality research, especially clinical trials, for the journal.
  • Attend conferences and other events to represent the journal, to identify suitable topics and authors, and to keep up to date with current developments in medical research.

Requirements

  • An MD or PhD with postdoctoral experience in a relevant subject, or a postgraduate higher degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Some editorial experience, preferably at a Senior Editor or Assistant Editor level.
  • Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of biological and medical sciences and broader social issues pertaining to cancer control.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently to demanding press deadlines.
  • Excellent command of the English language and the ability to write in an engaging and interesting manner.
  • Ability to work independently, but also to collaborate closely with other team members.
  • Proficiency with IT systems including MS Office.
