Supporting our portfolio of over 50 hybrid and open access scientific journals, you will actively contribute to advancing science, improving health outcomes, and fostering equitable participation in publishing.
We are seeking an Editor in Chief to lead a new multidisciplinary open access journal at Cell Press. This senior leadership role involves overseeing all editorial aspects of the journal, including managing a global editorial team, ensuring the quality and impact of published content, and shaping the journal’s strategic direction.
The Editor in Chief will collaborate closely with Cell Press teams across Operations, Marketing, Strategy, and Editorial to ensure the journal remains topical, distinctive, and influential. This is a unique opportunity to build and lead a premium OA journal and contribute to the growth of the Cell Press portfolio.
Responsibilities- Leading and managing the editorial team, recruiting, mentoring, empowering and inspiring team members.
- Managing day-to-day operations at the journal.
- Rigorously evaluating submissions against the demanding requirements for reporting breakthrough fundamental all science research.
- Building global networks and commissioning world-leading submissions (including insightful front matter articles).
- Shaping and implementing a journal strategy that ensures the journal remains topical, distinctive, impactful, agenda-setting, and the top destination for research from across the whole of science.
- Collaborating with Cell Press colleagues to broaden our footprint and ensure we continue to meet the needs of the research communities we serve.
- Supporting and leading strategic projects spanning Cell Press.
- Representing the OAQ journal and the wider Cell Press titles in the communities we serve.
- Traveling to participate in domestic & international conferences and visit top research institutes to engage with researchers.
- Ph.D. in life science or physical science.
- Proven successful senior editorial & research experience (4-5 years minimum).
- Proven ability in influencing the science community, with an existing strong top-level global network.
- Possess a passion for fundamental research within a specific life or physical science discipline.
- Proven excellent interpersonal, communication and people management skills.
- Proven people leadership and collaboration skill.
