Overview

Cyber Security Business Information Systems Officer (BISO) role at Elsevier. The BISO will plan, organize and execute enterprise-wide technical information security initiatives in support of security policies, use of appropriate security tools, and all product development and Solution Platforms. The BISO must work closely with senior management, third parties, project managers and business subject matter experts (SMEs), translate cybersecurity risk into enterprise risk dialogue, and have a strong technical pedigree to understand existing and new technologies and ensure they meet stringent security requirements.

About the Role

Working closely with senior management, the BISO will be responsible for planning, organizing and executing enterprise-wide technical information security initiatives in support of security policies, appropriate security tools, and all product development and Solution Platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a critical liaison role between the business unit and the security programme, enhancing collaboration, effective communications and alignment of goals, strategies and plans. Foster strong relationships with business unit leadership, squads, and BU teams.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor with business unit leadership and each respective squad and BU team.
  • Remove ambiguity, lower complexity and manage obstacles that hinder efficiency and effectiveness of security controls.
  • Support the CISO, Security management team, and Executive Leadership.
  • Build relationships with business units and tech squads to deliver security-by-design controls incorporated into projects, architecture, infrastructure and applications. Lead the implementation of security solutions, tools, and monitoring to mitigate cybersecurity risks.
  • Openly support the CISO, Security management team and Executive Leadership, even during challenging occasions.
  • Act as an ambassador for security-wide workstreams, including GRC, security awareness, Incident Response and others, aligning business units with the enterprise-wide security programme.
  • Contribute to the adoption and lead implementation of security solutions, tools and monitoring to maintain confidentiality, integrity and availability of BU information systems and data.

  • Ability to collaborate with multiple technical functions in security, infrastructure, technical operations, training, software engineering, and customer support.
  • Strong awareness of cloud and network infrastructure security best practices.
  • Comprehensive understanding of security controls for end-user devices and Microsoft 365 security implementations.
  • Knowledge of key DevOps principles and practices.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Organizationally savvy with strong problem solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of compliance and governance initiatives.
