About The Team

SSRN is Elsevier’s preprint server, working alongside more than 1,200 Elsevier journals to offer authors the option to preprint their research. The platform is experiencing rapid growth, particularly in de novo submissions. With this growth comes increasing challenges around research integrity, including AI‑generated content, fake submissions, predatory practices, and papermill activity. The team is focused on maintaining high‑quality standards, safeguarding the integrity of scholarly content, and supporting responsible growth across disciplines.

About The Role

This is a great opportunity to take ownership of research integrity at SSRN during a period of strong growth. You’ll play a key role in identifying and tackling challenges such as low‑quality, fake, or AI‑generated submissions, while helping improve processes and policies. You’ll work closely with cross‑functional teams and external stakeholders, contributing to both content quality and strategic initiatives, including community engagement and projects in areas like Environmental Science.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor submission trends and identify low‑quality or problematic content
  • Detect and act on suspicious activity (e.g., fake submissions, fraudulent behavior)
  • Contribute to strengthening research integrity policies and processes
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams (Product, Tech, Research Integrity) to improve workflows and screening
  • Provide clear reporting and insights to support decision‑making
  • Act as a point of contact for internal and external research integrity queries
  • Support strategic initiatives such as advisory boards, community engagement, and calls for papers
  • Collaborate with global teams and represent SSRN in wider research integrity discussions
  • Act as an external face for research integrity policies including conference and workshop attendance

Requirements

  • Experience in research integrity within academic publishing is required.
  • Understanding of peer review, publishing workflows, or ethical guidelines (e.g., COPE)
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail
  • Excellent organisation and stakeholder management skills
  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage both internal and external audiences
  • Proactive, self‑starter who can work independently and collaboratively
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, matrix environment
  • Interest in research integrity, content quality, and emerging challenges (e.g., AI in publishing)
