Are you passionate about helping researchers share impactful science with the world? Do you enjoy combining scientific expertise, editorial judgement, and collaboration to improve the author experience?

About our Team

Our STMJ (Science, Technology, and Medical Journals) team publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed research that drives progress across scientific and medical disciplines. We collaborate closely with authors, editors, reviewers, and societies to ensure the integrity and impact of the published work. Through innovation in editorial workflows and publishing technology, we help global research communities discover, evaluate, and disseminate knowledge that advances science and improves lives.

About the Role

The Associate Scientific Editor will join the Author Heroes team, helping authors navigate the publishing journey and find the most suitable home for their research. In this role, you will use your scientific expertise, editorial judgement, and communication skills to support authors, enhance editorial processes, and contribute to the publication of high-quality scientific content.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating content as a partner to external editors
  • Improving the editorial process for editors and reviewers iteratively
  • Engaging closely with authors to help them improve their manuscripts
  • Managing the editorial process for papers, from submission through peer review to the final decision
  • Helping authors increase their odds of success in being published in another journal if rejected from their first choice
  • Recruit and manage external editors, holding them to the same standard

Content evaluation is based on questions such as: Is the article submitted within the aims and scope of the journal(s)? Does the science make sense? Do the results support the main conclusions? Have the authors chosen an appropriate method? Is the manuscript of sufficient quality? Is this the right journal for this work, or could the authors improve their manuscript to increase their odds of success at another journal?

Requirements

  • Demonstrate an experimental, results-driven, and enthusiastic work attitude
  • Have a record of having published papers in scientific journals
  • Stay technology-savvy, familiar with online platforms, social media, and digital content

  • Build relationships and act as a self-starter
  • Be able to connect with the scientific community and across Elsevier at different levels within a large international environment
  • Show broad scientific interest and a desire to serve and help customers in the scientific and clinical community, including authors, editors, and reviewers
