Join our editorial team as an Associate or Scientific Editor, contributing to the evaluation and development of research across microbiology and the broader life sciences. You will support the peer review process, collaborate with global researchers, and help shape the direction of an interdisciplinary journal. This role offers the opportunity to build an editorial career while enabling clear, timely, and inclusive scientific communication.
Responsibilities
- Assess the novelty and impact of submitted research papers
- Oversee the peer review process for direct submissions and transferred contributions
- Build and maintain relationships with researchers
- Recruit research papers and review articles for submission to iScience
- Represent iScience and Cell Press at scientific meetings and research institutions
- Collaborate with academic editorial board members and internal editors
- Build effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond

Qualifications
- A PhD in a life science discipline, particularly Microbiology, is required; post-doctoral research experience would be a strong advantage
- Experience with data analysis or statistical approaches is advantageous
- We are open to hiring at the Scientific editor levels for candidates with appropriate editorial experience of 2+ years
- Interest in developing editorial expertise and understanding interdisciplinary research areas, and the ability to think critically about a broad range of scientific topics
- Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, in English
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
- Curiosity, creativity, and a desire to continuously improve ways of working
- Ability to work well in a team that is spread across geography, time zones, and a willingness to travel
