elseco is a high technology specialty insurance underwriting platform. More than 50 insurance and reinsurance companies including Lloyd’s syndicates are currently trading on the platform. elseco group has regulated offices in London, Zurich, Paris, Dubai and Washington DC. elseco via its newly launched Atom™ technology platform is providing “the most advanced underwriting services” to its partners. The company was founded over a decade ago with space insurance and has since diversified into aviation, energy, and Accident & Health insurance.

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Head of Accident and Health, the development Underwriter is tasked to underwrite and develop core products within the accident and health team. The role involves collaborating closely with distribution partners to understand their clients’ needs, evaluating risk exposures, and structuring coverage solutions that support long-term, profitable relationships. You will serve as a key point of contact for new business initiatives, working cross-functionally with actuarial, claims, and product teams to align underwriting decisions with market strategy. Success in the role requires strong interpersonal skills, business acumen, and the ability to balance risk management with partnership-driven growth. The role is based in our headquarter in London, United Kingdom. The role requires a mandatory base location in London for the first three years, with the opportunity for internal mobility thereafter, including potential relocation to our Dubai office or other future elseco locations globally.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To build and grow relationships with distributors across our main product lines.
  • Build strong relationships with related broking teams within Elseco to attract business and to develop shared initiatives.
  • Underwrite and administer A&H accounts across ViVet product line.
  • Travel and market to expand distribution and develop producer relationships.
  • Support Head of A&H with carrier relationship conversations.
  • To maintain good underwriting standards, by appropriately following the underwriting guidelines and referrals.
  • Helping to support profit driven business, with a focus on supporting an overall profit commission.
  • Support product review process including innovation and competition.
  • Provide underwriting insight on product performance to partners on a regular basis.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 7 years market experience insurance experience.
  • 5 years A&H experience with exposure to the specialist classes – marine, aviation, group personal accident/travel.
  • Experience in the MGA market is a plus, with understanding of structure of MGAs, binders and coverholder arrangements.
  • Experience of distribution with reputation and connectivity in the insurance market.
  • Ability to approach and/or generate new distribution, with confident understanding of product capabilities.
  • Understanding of technical underwriting including P&L and triangulations.
  • Supported the development and implementation of successful underwriting strategies.
  • Comfortable with the management of binding arrangements and communication to carriers.
  • Comfortable with the use of distribution technology. Experience with setting up products for online distribution is a plus.
  • Ideally degree or ACII level education.
