Principal Teacher Curriculum (Science) - PT6 Permanent Full Time
Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 standalone nursery schools. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.
Beeslack Community High School is a comprehensive, non-denominational high school with a current roll of 780 pupils. We have three associated primary schools - Bilston, Mauricewood and Roslin, with whom we have an excellent working relationship and well established transition links. At Beeslack we pride ourselves on our values, which are: ambition, respect and kindness. We are very much a community school that places great value on building strong relationships with every member of our school community. We believe that the connections we forge at school last a lifetime, hence our motto: "Once Beeslack, Always Beeslack." We are fortunate to occupy a lovely 17.5 acre site, which offers ample opportunities for outdoor learning, and in the coming years we will transition to a new school building at Easter Bush, which will be a STEM centre of excellence.
Due to the promotion of the existing post holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the school's Science faculty. Interviews for the above post will take place on week beginning 9th March 2026.

- Develop and implement effective science teaching strategies to enhance pupil outcomes across the school and associated primary schools.
- Support outdoor learning and development of the STEM centre of excellence and related initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen transition links with associated primary schools and ensure a smooth pupil progression.

- General Teaching Council Scotland: Teachers applying for permanent posts should be fully registered with the GTCS.
- Regulated Work with Children: This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. It is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children. Successful candidates will require a PVG Scheme membership or update before starting employment, with costs met by the applicant and recoverable via salary deductions.
- Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974: Applicants should disclose any unspent convictions. Disclosures should be made to the Employment and Reward Manager. Failure to disclose may affect appointment. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar an applicant; decisions depend on the nature of the position and circumstances.
