Learning Assistant (Early Years – St Andrew\'s RC Primary School)
Position Title: Learning Assistant, ASN (Early Years). Location: St Andrew\'s RC Primary School, Midlothian.
Contract Status: Permanent. Hours of Work: 30 hours per week (39 weeks per year). Minimum actual salary: £20,424.33 per annum.
Closing date: Sunday 26th October 2025. Interview week: beginning 3rd November 2025.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of individual pupils, applying child development knowledge.
- Communicate effectively with staff and pupils, providing sensitive support.
- Respond to the needs of individual pupils, using early years best practice.
- Attend additional training courses, e.g., first aid, calm techniques.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Evidence of basic literacy and numeracy at Standard Grade General level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency.
- Previous experience working in early years settings.
- If post is within a Nursery Environment, must register with or obtain membership with the SSSC within 6 months of appointment. Hold relevant qualifications or be willing to work towards these qualifications within the first year.
- Regulated work with children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Act 2007. PVG Scheme membership required. Apply prior to commencement of employment.
- Midlothian Council policy: successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
