Evidence of basic literacy and numeracy at Standard Grade General level, or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency. The holder must be able to communicate effectively with staff and pupils, and provide sensitive support. They must be familiar with child development and able to respond to the needs of individual pupils, having prior experience in this field.

It is required that the jobholder undertake additional training courses such as first aid and calming techniques. If the role is within a nursery environment, the jobholder must either be registered with or obtain membership of the SSSC within six months of appointment. Candidates should currently hold the relevant qualifications or be willing to work towards attaining them within the first year of registration. Hours of Work: 15h
Working Pattern: Monday – 1.00 pm to 4.15 pm, Tuesday – 1.00 pm to 5.15 pm, Wednesday – 1.00 pm to 5.15 pm, Thursday – 1.00 pm to 5.15 pm (15 min unpaid break given daily)
Weeks per year: 52
Salary: Based on 15 hours over 52 weeks, the minimum actual salary for this position is £11,748.32 per annum. Successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale in line with Midlothian Council policy.
