Job Purpose The Baker is responsible for preparing, baking, finishing and presenting a range of bakery products in accordance with EL&N's recipes, quality standards and food safety procedures. The ideal candidate will have a passion for baking, strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistent product quality in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Key Responsibilities Prepare and bake a variety of bakery products, including cakes, pastries, cookies, muffins, breads and other items according to the menu. Follow standard recipes, ingredient specifications and portion sizes to ensure consistency. Measure, weigh and mix ingredients accurately. Prepare doughs, batters, fillings, creams, toppings and other baking components. Operate ovens, mixers and other bakery equipment safely and efficiently. Monitor baking times, temperatures, texture, color and overall product quality. Decorate, finish and present baked goods to meet EL&N's visual and quality standards. Ensure all bakery products are fresh, appealing and ready for service according to production requirements. Follow food safety, allergen management, hygiene and health and safety procedures. Store ingredients and finished products correctly, maintaining appropriate temperatures and labelling. Monitor ingredient stock, check expiry dates and follow FIFO stock rotation procedures. Maintain cleanliness and organization of bakery workstations, equipment, utensils and storage areas. Minimize food waste through accurate production planning and responsible ingredient use. Coordinate with chefs and kitchen team members to meet daily production and service requirements. Report equipment issues, ingredient shortages or quality concerns to the kitchen supervisor or manager. Candidate Requirements A genuine passion for baking and bakery product preparation. Previous experience as a baker or bakery assistant is preferred. Knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, measurements and oven temperatures. Ability to follow recipes accurately and maintain consistent results. Strong attention to detail, particularly in product quality and presentation. Good understanding of food hygiene, food safety and allergen awareness. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks during busy periods. Good teamwork, communication and time-management skills. A creative approach to product finishing and presentation. Reliability, flexibility and a willingness to learn and develop professionally.
