Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head of Learning Support and external professionals to develop an individual learning plan that is designed to meet EHCP outcomes and ensure a holistic approach in all four broad areas of need.
  • Meet half termly with the Physiotherapist, Speech and Language therapist, Occupational Therapist and Visual Impairment specialist and provide focused activities and interventions based on their recommendations.
  • With the support of the Head of Learning Support, plan and deliver bespoke English and Maths lessons which will be taught daily using a creative approach to motivate and inspire learning.
  • Support focus and understanding in the classroom, adapting the lesson where necessary to suit the individual's learning style and needs.
  • Model effective learning strategies using a Growth Mindset approach.
  • Utilise technology to support the individual's learning and organisation to enable independence in routines and schedule.
  • Support the individual to communicate clearly following speech and language therapist advice.
  • Engage in and model excellent communications.
  • Carry out termly assessments to measure progress.
  • Meet parents half termly with the Head of Learning Support to review targets and measure progress.
  • Participate in and contribute towards EHCP Annual Review meetings.
  • Use a creative approach to motivate, inspire and challenge the students on a one‑to‑one basis and within a small group, to develop peer‑to‑peer interactions.
  • Engage with School life and The Elms community to ensure learning and co‑curricular activities are both experienced.
  • Support with house events, co‑curricular activities and sports.
  • Support the pupil on a one‑to‑one basis within a classroom environment, and within a co‑curricular setting.
  • Ensure you are up to date on learning development theories, approaches and able to develop these to best support pupils.
  • Develop the pupil's abilities to allow them further independence and to challenge.
