$101,213 – $108,972 pa (plus 12% super and annual pay increases)

Your new career

Join a passionate and skilled Road Strategy team committed to creating safer, more accessible, and sustainable transport options across the Surf Coast Shire. As a Traffic Engineer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the region’s road and transport network through the planning and delivery of road safety and traffic management infrastructure. From scoping and designing projects to overseeing contractors and providing technical advice on planning applications, your work will directly influence how our community moves. With a balance of hands-on engineering, stakeholder collaboration, and strategic input, this is a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact.

What you will bring to the role

  • A solid understanding of traffic engineering, road safety, and transport network planning
  • Experience delivering civil infrastructure projects from planning through to construction
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including working with contractors, consultants, and the community
  • The ability to prepare technical reports, design documentation, and cost estimates
  • A collaborative and solutions-focused approach with excellent time management

Key selection criteria

Mandatory qualifications, experience and requirements:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification (qualification check conducted)
  • Experience in municipal or civil engineering field of minimum two years
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, recognised professional standards relating to traffic management and civil engineering
  • Experience in planning and developing work programs, including monitoring, reviewing and reporting to supervisor
  • Experience in a local government environment
  • Current Victorian driver's licence
  • A current Working With Children Check
  • You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia
  • Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council)
  • A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia
