The IFYS Child Protection Residential Care Programs support children and young people needing a safe, dependable, and nurturing living environment. Reporting to the Case Manager, Residential Youth Workers deliver the day-to-day care to young people in the Residential Care house. A day in the role of a Residential Youth Worker may include supporting young people to manage challenging behaviours, planning or attending activities and following daily routines to promote life-skills development. Residential Youth Workers complete case notes and admin tasks daily as well as helping to maintain a clean and safe environment. Candidates with transferrable skills from working with vulnerable people who display challenging behaviours are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Afternoon shift $53.14, Night shift $54.11, Saturday shift $67.64, Sunday shift $86.96, Sleepover allowance $60.02
  • Not for profit salary packaging options (package up to $15,900 per FBT year)
  • No rostered 24 hour shifts or use of personal vehicle on shift
  • Dedicated on-call team for after-hours support
  • Paid in-house training opportunities including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Preventing Child Sexual Exploitation and Sanctuary training
  • Comprehensive onboarding, including Hope & Healing, induction and a minimum of two buddy shifts

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe and therapeutic environment for young people to grow and learn
  • Support and manage young people’s complex and challenging behaviours in a consistent and calm manner
  • Build rapport and remain non-judgmental whilst maintaining professional boundaries
  • Plan individual and group activities to meet the young people’s needs and goals in line with Case Plans
  • Use daily routines to provide hands on training of life skills such as cooking, budgeting, and personal care
  • Timely and accurate completion of administrative duties including petty cash, case notes, and incident reports
  • Transport clients to school, work, appointments and other commitments

Essential requirements:

  • A QLD Working with Children Blue Card or have applied for one
  • Current Queensland driver's license with no restrictions
  • Ability to provide two references from recent employers (including your current line manager)
  • Already hold or are enrolled in a Certificate IV or higher in a relevant field prior to commencing work (IFYS can provide advice/more information on this)
  • Availability for a variety of different shifts over a fortnightly roster (day/evening/sleepover/weekend)
  • As part of our recruitment process, we do a number of history screenings including a Licensed Care Suitability check (LCS2) and a National Crime Check
