Elmfield is seeking an inspiring and experienced Science Teacher to lead our Upper School provision. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about both high-level academic achievement (AQA GCSE) and the holistic, phenomenon-based approach that defines a Waldorf education. This is a unique chance to shape scientific inquiry at a school dedicated to educating the whole child—fostering not just intellectual understanding, but also a deep reverence for the natural world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Leadership: Lead and deliver AQA GCSE Science (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) with the focus and rigour required for academic success.
  • Waldorf Main Lessons: Design and deliver Upper School Science Main Lesson Blocks (Classes 9–11), utilising the phenomenological approach to bring concepts to life through observation and creative inquiry.
  • Laboratory Management: Oversee the safe and efficient running of the Science Laboratory, including resource management, budget control, and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Whole-School Oversight: Provide oversight and mentorship for science teaching across the Lower School, ensuring a smooth, developmentally appropriate progression of scientific concepts.
  • Mentoring: Work closely with colleagues to integrate scientific concepts with art, handwork, and other subjects.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds QTS and has demonstrable experience teaching Science up to GCSE level.
  • Has a genuine interest in, or experience with, Rudolf Steiner's educational philosophy.
  • Can transition seamlessly between the demands of external examinations and the imaginative, artistic work of the Main Lesson curriculum.
  • Is committed to maintaining a high standard of health and safety within the laboratory environment.

If you are a science teacher who seeks to foster wonder, develop sound judgment, and awaken the imagination through the study of the natural world, we encourage you to apply.
