Project Manager (Environment) 1 Year Fixed Term Contract

We are looking for a proactive and highly organised Project Manager to support the delivery of a wide-ranging portfolio of environmental and operational projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping future service delivery as part of Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) and transformation activity. You will bring strong project management expertise, analytical thinking, and the ability to work collaboratively across services, ensuring that essential environmental services are modern, efficient, and ready to operate effectively within a new unitary structure.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Environment, you will lead and support a variety of projects across environmental services, with a strong focus on LGR workstreams and service transformation.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver environmental and operational projects through the full project lifecycle
• Develop “as is” and “to be” service models, processes, and workflows
• Research and analyse services, policies, and performance to inform LGR work
• Support service harmonisation and transformation across authorities
• Produce key project documentation (plans, business cases, risk logs, reports)
• Coordinate stakeholders including teams, partners, and contractors
• Manage budgets, procurement, and resources
• Provide clear project updates and recommendations to senior stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with statutory, environmental, and health & safety requirements
• Support engagement and communication around service changes
• Contribute to service improvements and efficiency savings

This role will also require flexibility to support business-as-usual (BAU) activities where needed.

• Proven experience delivering projects from initiation to completion
• Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and external partners
• Knowledge of project management methodologies, governance, and risk management
• Ability to manage budgets, resources, and procurement processes
• Strong IT skills, including experience with project tools and data analysis
