In this role, we are looking for a leader for our housing standards team, which is tasked with delivering on the council’s responsibilities in this area, and support the health, safety and well-being of our residents. The team has wide-ranging responsibilities and the role offers variety and opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the council’s meeting its duties around housing standards – ensuring compliance through regulation, advice, assistance and enforcement across multiple tenures.
- Providing day-to-day leadership to the housing standards team, ensuring delivery of a high-quality service, through casework supervision, coaching and supporting learning and development.
- Leading on the local implementation of the Renters Rights Act 2025, working alongside colleagues in our housing solution team and engaging with landlords, tenants and other stakeholders.
- Developing, implementing and reviewing relevant policies and procedures to support service delivery.
- Driving change and service improvement, developing and implementing new policies, procedures and processes.
- Working collaboratively with your colleagues and partner agencies to develop and lead initiatives so that residents get the very best service and opportunities to live safely in their homes.
- Providing comprehensive advice and guidance to your team on difficult and complex cases.
- Ensuring that the council is using its powers to tackle fuel poverty, promote home energy efficiency and reduce the number of long-term empty homes in the borough.
- Monitoring and reporting on service performance.
- A key member of the housing services management team.
The successful candidate will hold an environmental health degree or equivalent, have significant experience of using the HHSRS and operating mandatory HMO licensing schemes. You will have experience in managing staff, excellent communication skills and the ability to lead, motivate and support a team and have detailed knowledge of relevant law, guidance and good practice.
