Ellwood Atfield is partnering with a leading not-for-profit organisation in the health sector to appoint a Public Affairs & Policy Manager. This is a key role leading policy and external affairs activity in Wales, with collaboration across UK-wide teams. The successful candidate will lead public affairs strategy, manage stakeholder relationships, and provide expert political and policy advice to senior leadership. You will oversee a small team and play an important role in shaping the organisation’s external engagement and policy positioning. This role offers the opportunity to influence health policy, build strong stakeholder relationships, and contribute to meaningful impact across the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will lead public affairs and policy activity in Wales, providing strategic insight and advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • You will build and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, government bodies, and partners across the health sector, ensuring the organisation is positioned as a credible and influential voice.
  • You will provide high-quality political intelligence, policy analysis, briefings, and advice to senior leaders.
  • The role will involve overseeing policy projects, consultations, stakeholder engagement, and external communications activity, while managing and supporting a small team to deliver high-quality work.
  • Working closely with colleagues across the UK, you will contribute to a joined-up external affairs strategy and help ensure the organisation responds effectively to developments in the political and policy environment.

About You

We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of the Welsh political, public affairs, and health policy environment. You will have experience providing policy and strategic advice to senior stakeholders and be confident in building trusted relationships with senior external partners. You will bring excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality briefings and policy documents. You will have experience managing complex workstreams and delivering projects to a high standard, as well as the ability to lead or support a team. Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential.
