The trade association prides itself on its ability to support these businesses, championing their interests whilst engaging with government, media and stakeholders at the UK and global level to influence policy decision making.

The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a recently graduated candidate with an interest in developing their policy career with a renowned trade association.

As a Policy Officer, you will contribute to the development, analysis and delivery of a range of policy issues across the sector, including on areas such as skills and industry competitiveness.

You will work alongside the Policy Manager and wider department to delivery across the organisation’s strategic policy priorities.

Whilst developing strong working relationships with the organisation’s diverse members, you will contribute to the coordination of the policy team’s member committees to understand industry needs.

As a Policy Officer, you will also conduct research and analysis to ensure policy recommendations are supported by solid evidence.

You will play a key role in producing high-quality briefings, reports and consultation responses for both an internal and external audience.

Key Responsibilities

• To monitor, analyse, research and write regular briefings on relevant political and industry issues for members and across the organisation.
• To support the development policy positions, consultation responses and engagement materials in collaboration with members and other stakeholders.
• To communicate policy developments such as briefings and positions to both an internal and external audience.
• To support relevant committees on policy developments as required, including supporting the work and management of the Policy Co-ordination Committee.
• To support the delivery of the organisation’s National Apprenticeship Week event in parliament alongside the Policy Manager.
• Foster strong working relationships with members, policymakers and external stakeholders.
• Represent the trade association at relevant working group, stakeholder meetings and industry events.
• Coordinate and contribute to Committees, Working Groups and external working groups.
• Support and, where appropriate, lead engagement with government officials and partner organisations.
• Support the Policy Team’s planning and delivery of advocacy priorities, KPIs and political engagement.
• Collaborate effectively across departments to ensure alignment and impact of policy activity.

Person Specification

• Educated to degree level – ideally in Politics, Law, International Relations or a related subject.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce high-quality briefings and reports for a diverse audience.
• Ability to analyse complex political and regulatory information and translate into a clear policy narrative.
• Confident building relationships with senior stakeholders.
• Good working knowledge of UK Parliamentary and legislative processes.
• Strong organisational skills, able to manage priorities and deadlines.
• A proactive and self-motivated individual with an ability to work independently.
