The predicted salary is between 43200 - 72000 £ per year.

The Gambling Commission is the independent regulator of commercial gambling and the National Lottery. It regulates to ensure that gambling is open and fair, crime free and that children and vulnerable people are protected. In addition to its duties to protect consumers, the organisation has secondary duties with the Lottery to maximise returns to good causes which see over £1bn a year supporting sport, heritage and community projects across the United Kingdom. The Gambling Commission remit has expanded significantly, it now regulates around 3,000 licensees with a total Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) of £11.2bn in GB, this includes all online betting. As with many fast moving consumer markets, this sector is seeing rapid change with an increasingly digital dimension to the National Lottery and gambling.

This is a new role for the Commission and you will be joining at an exciting time as it looks to develop a new future strategy to reflect changes in the market, the technology and consumer behaviour. Reporting directly to our new CEO, Sarah Harrison, the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs and Research will be responsible for:

  • Leading the organisation's thinking in how it engages with the media, parliament, consumers, interest groups, stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Taking ownership and development of key communications channels such as the web and social media, as well as strategies and plans to promote the Commission’s role and work now and into the future.
  • Leading the organisation’s strategy for, and delivery of, consumer research and participation surveys, as well as industry data and statistics.
  • Ensuring evidence and analysis from research helps shape future regulatory, and to an extent public policy on gambling.
  • Being a part of a leadership team to support organisational change and shape the Commission’s future strategy and plans.

As the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs and Research, you will have:

  • Experience working at a senior level in either government or in an equivalent senior post in the public affairs / communications arena or a large not for profit organisation; who is used to working on high profile/sensitive issues.
  • Experience of people management, led a team through change, and are able to evidence having achieved success through developing and engaging their people.
  • Experience of managing headcount and budgets.
  • Proven experience in taking company vision/objectives and converting them into communications strategies with measurable initiatives; to deliver a high standard of effective creative solutions.
  • Experience in engaging with complex policy issues and the ability to contribute as part of the Executive team to developing the strategic policy agenda for the Commission.
