We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Health Care Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team at Ellison View Surgery. This position is offered on a 3-month fixed-term basis with the potential to become permanent, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase your skills and develop your career within the practice. In this role, you will play an important part in delivering high-quality patient care, supporting our clinical team, and contributing to the smooth running of the practice.
You will work closely with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, providing direct patient care, assisting with clinical procedures, promoting health and wellbeing, and enhancing the overall patient experience. Main duties of the job:- Consult with patients and their families to assess needs and support care planning.
- Assist clinical staff in delivering treatments, preventative care, long-term condition management, and patient education.
- Provide clinical support to nurses and other healthcare professionals, including basic clinical interventions and minor procedures under supervision.
- Act as a chaperone and support specimen handling, minor operations, and clinical waste management in line with IPC policies.
- Work within national and local protocols, recognising professional boundaries and knowing when to refer patients.
- Support enhanced services and practice administration as required.
- Participate in mandatory training, induction, appraisals, and ongoing clinical governance activities.
- Maintain a safe, tidy, and effective working environment at all times.
About us: Ellison View Surgery is a GP practice serving approximately 6,000 patients, supported by a skilled and experienced clinical team comprising 3 Partners and 1 salaried GP. The team also includes 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Nursing Associate, 1 Health Care Assistant, and 1 Phlebotomist. Our administration team consists of a mix of enthusiastic Medical Receptionists and experienced Senior Administrators. We pride ourselves on a friendly, supportive work environment while maintaining high standards of patient care. We value and support our team members with good terms & conditions.
Core Responsibilities:- Consult with patients and their families to assess patient needs.
- Assist clinical staff in treatment, preventative care, long-term condition management, health promotion, and patient education.
- Provide clinical support to nurses and other healthcare professionals.
- Deliver basic clinical interventions under supervision to support patient safety and continuity of care.
- Act as a chaperone when required.
- Record and prepare specimens for onward transportation.
- Assist during minor operations.
- Ensure clinical waste is safely removed and sharps bins replaced in line with IPC policy.
- Work within national and local protocols and adhere to safeguarding policies for adults and children.
- Recognise professional boundaries and know when to elevate or refer patients.
- Support enhanced services and other practice requirements.
- Provide support to the administrative team as required.
- Complete mandatory training and induction programmes.
- Contribute to clinical governance initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and effective working environment.

- Experience in wound care, including removal of sutures and staples.
- The ability to carry out patient medicals, including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, BMI, and other basic observations.
- The ability to work within their own scope of practice, recognising when to elevate or refer to colleagues.
- Confident clinical IT system user skills and the ability to record accurate clinical notes.
- Understand the requirement for PSDs and associated policy.
- Understanding of safeguarding adults and children.
- Broad knowledge of clinical governance.
- Understanding and ability to follow chaperone procedures.
- Possession of the Care Certificate or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Evidence of training or qualifications commensurate with the responsibilities of the post.
- Confident working with members of the public in a supportive and professional manner.
- Brings experience from a healthcare environment, understanding the importance of patient care and confidentiality.
- Have previous experience within a primary care setting.
- Possess a good understanding of infection prevention and control procedures.
