Led by a faculty of world experts, EIT Oxford seeks to solve the world\’s most challenging problems across four high-risk, high-reward, high-impact humane endeavours: health and medical science; food security and sustainable agriculture; climate change and clean energy; and government innovation in an era of artificial intelligence.
EIT Oxford is investing significant resources in a new world-class research and development facility in the Oxford Science Park. Set for completion in 2027, the state-of-the-art campus includes 300,000 sq ft of research laboratories, an oncology and preventative care clinic, and educational and meeting spaces. Together, they create the perfect environment for EIT Oxford experts to take ground-breaking ideas from research to broad implementation. The new facility will further EIT\’s current partnership with the University of Oxford and become the new home for Ellison Scholars.

Requirements
Role Overview
We are looking to recruit a Data Scientist who will apply their strong expertise in machine learning, deep learning and other analytical techniques to advance individual programmes. You will collaborate with other data scientists, subject matter experts and leadership to execute the right technical solution for a given problem.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with data scientists, subject matter experts, and leaders to deeply explore and refine research questions
  • Design, create, test, and implement complex models and algorithms to address critical research questions and develop novel analytical products
  • Tailor models to optimize performance while ensuring outcomes are relevant for the product requirements
  • Adhere to development best practices (e.g., reusability, consistency)
  • Effectively communicate the design, function, performance, and output of analytical models and solutions to stakeholders
  • Collaborate within a growing team of experienced data scientists to contribute to impactful solutions and enhance team effectiveness.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in machine learning, including deep learning and foundation models
  • Experience working with large datasets and relational databases, unstructured data such as text or images or some specific datasets relevant for EIT areas of focus (e.g., healthcare, sustainability)
  • Proficiency in Python including common relevant opensource toolkits like scikit-learn, LightGBM, PyTorch, Transformers
  • Experience adhering to best-practice coding standards (e.g., documentation, effective resources use etc)

Nice to have but not essential:

  • Proven ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environments like start-ups (e.g., willingness to take up multiple roles, high degree of autonomy)
  • Professional or academic experience specifically in EIT areas of focus such as healthcare, environment and sustainability and / or government

Terms of Appointment:

  • You must have the right to work permanently in the UK with a willingness to travel as necessary.
  • You will live in, or within easy commuting distance of, Oxford.
  • During peak periods, some longer hours may be required and some working across multiple time zones due to the global nature of the programme.
