About the role

We are looking for a talented Management Accountant to join our finance team as the right‑hand person to the Financial Controller. This is a broad, hands‑on role at the heart of the business. You’ll own the management accounts, work closely with branches and departments to improve business performance and continuously look for ways to increase the effectiveness of the finance team. Key responsibilities

  • Management Accounts
    • Own production of the monthly accounts to tight deadlines, including consolidation of all group companies
    • Provide clear analysis of performance to the senior team
    • Complete balance sheet reconciliations, with discrepancies resolved promptly
    • Maintain cashflow forecasting
  • Business Partnering & Cost Management
    • Build trusted relationships with branches and other head office teams
    • Deliver clear financial analysis to help the business understand and manage their costs
    • Drive cost control across the business - challenge spend, identify savings opportunities and hold teams accountable to their commitments
    • Support the business in all aspects of financial management, assessing what is required to run each department and evaluating the best way to procure it
    • Produce business investment appraisals and analyse their impacts
    • Maintain rolling forecasts of all business expenditure
  • Process Improvement & Systems
    • Continuously look for ways to make processes more effective and efficient
    • Maintain and improve the finance systems and procedures
    • Implement and maintain controls to ensure all the underlying business finance systems are robust
    • Maintain a deep understanding of the ERP system and how it works across the business
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure all financial statutory requirements of the organisation are met
    • Support the external audit, preparing schedules and liaising with the auditors
    • Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns and all other tax requirements
  • Other
    • Provide support for the payroll where necessary
    • Work with the operations team and branches to ensure stock counting is robust and losses are well understood and managed
    • Support the Financial Controller and leadership team with any ad‑hoc requests

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Proactive and hands‑on, takes ownership and sees things through
  • Confident and credible with non‑finance managers and happy to challenge
  • Strong analytical skills and communicator – can turn data into clear, practical insight
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Well organised and comfortable managing multiple deadlines
  • Solid working knowledge of all aspects of finance processes and accounting
  • Experience of producing monthly accounts and balance sheets
  • Familiarity with cost of sales analysis
  • Experience with using finance systems
