The Role
We are looking for a talented, forward-thinking Senior Structural Engineer, with at least 5+ years of post-graduate experience, including at least 1 year within the UK, who wants to make a difference. Ideally, you'll have achieved or are working towards Chartership. We would love you to have worked with timber and composites as well!
You will work on a diverse range of projects including:
- High-end commercial new build projects (such as Copyright Building)
- Complex refurbishments of existing buildings (including Old War Office, The Ned and Bow Street Hotel)
- Mass housing projects and masterplans (such as Harrington Place, Woking)
- School projects (including St John’s, Leatherhead)
- Architecturally challenging private residential projects (such as Anna & Ava House and CorTen House)
Alongside this, you will be part of a team who are always striving to do things better, not just technically but ethically, to positively impact the climate emergency. We are looking for like-minded individuals who can help us continue to deliver these amazing projects and have a positive impact on society.
You will:
- Assist in the delivery of client projects to time and budget.
- Work on all aspects of design for various small and medium sized projects, with minimum supervision, and on larger projects, you will spend time on selected technical issues.
- Work closely with other teams within Elliott Wood including Sustainability and Civils.
- For small and medium sized projects, deal with all aspects of design from inception through to completion of works on site with only limited supervision.
- Involvement in appointment and fee issues, assisting senior members of the team as required.
- Instruct technicians to carry out production information as and when required.
- Liaise with Architects, Clients and other external professionals whilst carrying out your duties.
- Make periodic visits to site to monitor the works as they proceed, including attending site meetings and dealing with queries as they arise.
- Be proactive in your approach to your own training and IPD/CPD within the Practice framework.
About You
You will ideally have at least 5+ years of experience within a similar organisation and ideally, be chartered or working towards this. Your experience should include at least 1 year within the UK. You will have managed smaller client projects and/or practice management issues.
A strong academic history with a relevant degree or equivalent from a well-recognised University is essential. You should be experienced in working in multi-disciplinary teams, including ideally, high-profile Architects.
Good project management skills including an ability to manage time, resources, costs and communication within and outside the Practice are important. You should possess a strong team working ability, able to influence, explain and present a professional image at all times. An open, positive and approachable attitude, along with excellent communication skills, fluent in written and spoken English, are also required.
