We are seeking a highly experienced Senior UNIX Support Engineer to support mission-critical AIX platforms within banking and government environments. This role involves managing OS lifecycle, leading End-of-Support (EOS) upgrades, and ensuring high availability, security, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in production support environments, with a focus on system stability, automation, and adherence to ITIL processes and security policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage AIX OS End-of-Support (EOS) upgrades across critical systems
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure seamless upgrade planning and execution
- Define and enforce UNIX system configuration standards and governance policies, aligned with organizational and regulatory requirements
- Ensure systems meet availability, performance, resilience, and security standards
- Provide L2/L3 production support, including incident, problem, and change management in line with ITIL framework
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents and implement preventive measures
- Drive system recovery and service restoration with urgency in high-impact scenarios
- Automate operational processes using Perl, KSH, and Python scripting
- Manage and support DevOps and automation tools such as Git/GitHub, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and monitoring tools like Nagios
- Lead system performance tuning and capacity planning initiatives
- Review and govern change requests, ensuring compliance with internal controls and audit requirements
- Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes in accordance with business continuity plans
- Ensure timely patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation for OS and system software
- Support security audits, compliance checks, and regulatory reporting requirements
Key Deliverables
- Successful and compliant delivery of AIX OS upgrade and lifecycle management
- High system availability, stability, and performance in production environments
- Implementation of automation solutions to reduce manual effort and operational risk
- Compliance with security, audit, and regulatory standards (e.g., MAS guidelines, internal IT policies)
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in UNIX system support, with strong expertise in AIX
- Proven experience in banking, financial services, or government project environments
- Strong knowledge of AIX system administration, including volume management, file systems, clustering, NTP, DNS, SSH, and monitoring tools (e.g., TSM, ITM)
- Experience in production support (L2/L3) with exposure to incident, problem, and change management
- Solid experience in UNIX troubleshooting, performance tuning, and system optimization
- Hands-on experience with server clustering and high-availability environments
- Familiarity with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines
- Good understanding of IT security, vulnerability management, and compliance standards
- Knowledge of networking and data communication concepts
- Experience supporting middleware and enterprise applications on UNIX platforms is an advantage
- Regional support experience is preferred
