UNIX/Linux Infrastructure Engineer in Penarth

Job Description

• We are looking for an experienced UNIX/Linux Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, configure, secure, and support enterprise UNIX/Linux environments.
• The role will be responsible for infrastructure implementation, automation, security hardening, high availability, and project deployment activities across Development, Test, UAT, and Production environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Build & Implementation Install, configure, build, and harden UNIX/Linux servers, primarily RHEL and Oracle Linux.
• Build and configure Development, Test, UAT, and Production environments.
• Configure system services, networking, storage, and security components.
• Perform server provisioning, configuration, patching, and system upgrades.
• Ensure infrastructure readiness for application deployment and onboarding.
• High Availability & Clustering Configure and support High Availability and clustering solutions, including Veritas Cluster Server (VCS/FSS).
• Perform cluster configuration, maintenance, failover testing, and troubleshooting.
• Support Disaster Recovery and business continuity activities.
• Automation & Standardization Develop Shell scripts and Python automation for server provisioning and operational activities.
• Implement configuration management and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
• Standardize server build processes, configurations, and deployment procedures.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive infrastructure tasks.
• Storage & Virtualization Configure and administer SAN/NAS storage, LVM, and filesystem environments.
• Support storage provisioning, capacity management, and troubleshooting.
• Work with virtualization platforms such as VMware. Support cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure where required.
• Security & Compliance Implement OS security hardening and enterprise security standards.
• Perform patching and vulnerability remediation. Ensure UNIX/Linux environments comply with organizational and regulatory security requirements.
• Support security audits and remediation activities.
• Project & Deployment Support Collaborate with application, database, network, cloud, and security teams.
• Participate in infrastructure planning, design reviews, testing, and deployment activities.
• Support application releases, cutovers, migrations, and production implementations.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and provide technical support during project execution.
• Documentation & Knowledge Transfer Create and maintain Technical Design Documents (TDDs), build documents, SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge articles. Document infrastructure configurations, deployment procedures, and recovery processes.
• Provide knowledge transfer to operations and support teams. Maintain accurate project and operational documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

• Primary Skills Strong experience in Linux Administration – RHEL / Oracle Linux
• Hands-on experience in UNIX/Linux server build, configuration, and security hardening
• Strong Shell Scripting and Python automation skills
