Technical Director – The Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to take strategic responsibility for technical excellence and innovation across a portfolio of cementitious products and applications. The Technical Director will work closely with the senior leadership, commercial and operational teams to identify market opportunities, solve customer challenges and develop innovative new products and applications. Acting as a senior technical authority for cementitious products, they will ensure the company’s technical expertise is translated into solutions which deliver genuine value for customers and the business. This is not a purely R&D focused position. The successful candidate will combine deep technical understanding of cementitious materials with a strong commercial mindset. They will be an ideas-driven individual who understands the market, can identify opportunities for new products and applications and has the capability to take ideas from initial concept through technical development, testing and trials to successful commercialisation.
Technical Director – Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver the technical and innovation strategy for the company’s cementitious product portfolio, ensuring it supports wider commercial growth objectives
- Act as a senior technical authority across cementitious materials, supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), binders, concrete technologies and related applications
- Work closely with commercial colleagues and customers to identify opportunities, understand technical requirements and develop innovative product and application solutions
- Lead research, development and innovation activities, taking new cementitious products and applications from initial concept through testing, trials and commercialisation
- Identify opportunities to develop lower-carbon, sustainable and circular solutions in response to changing customer and industry requirements
- Monitor developments in cementitious technologies, legislation, standards and the wider market to identify future opportunities and risks
- Provide technical leadership during customer engagements, product trials and the resolution of complex technical challenges
- Lead and develop the technical team, creating a collaborative and commercially focused culture of innovation and continuous improvement
- Build strong external relationships and represent the business with customers, research partners and relevant industry organisations
Technical Director – You:
- Significant senior technical experience within the cementitious products, cement, concrete or closely related construction materials sector
- Deep technical knowledge of cementitious materials and products, with expertise across areas such as supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), binders, concrete technology and performance optimisation
- A demonstrable track record of developing new cementitious products, applications or technical solutions and taking them through development towards commercialisation
- Strong understanding of how different cementitious materials and products perform within practical construction applications
- Commercially astute, with the ability to understand customer challenges and translate technical expertise into commercially viable products and solutions
- An innovative and ideas-driven individual who can identify new applications and opportunities while maintaining a clear focus on commercial outcomes
- An experienced technical leader with the ability to develop high-performing teams and work collaboratively with commercial and operational colleagues
- A credible and engaging communicator, comfortable discussing complex technical matters with customers, colleagues and external industry stakeholders
- A relevant degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Concrete Technology, Construction Materials or a related discipline
