Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Fractional DevOps Engineer to join the team.

Location: London

Salary: Competitive

Job Type: Fractional, 1–2 days per week

About The Company: Our client is an early-stage technology business developing a highly secure financial software platform. The product will handle sensitive accounting, tax and payroll information and will connect with government, banking and other third-party services. As the platform moves through its next stage of development, the business requires an experienced DevOps specialist to establish secure, reliable and proportionate cloud infrastructure without introducing unnecessary complexity.

The Role: The Fractional DevOps Engineer will take a hands-on lead in shaping the company’s Google Cloud Platform environment, deployment processes, security controls and operational practices. Working closely with the technical leadership and engineering team, the successful candidate will build robust foundations for secure software delivery, monitoring, resilience and future scale. The role will suit a pragmatic engineer who favours well-managed cloud services and clear controls over complexity for its own sake.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain a secure and scalable GCP environment with appropriate separation between development, staging and production
  • Establish Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and ensure production infrastructure is reproducible and documented
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines incorporating automated testing, security scanning, controlled deployment and rollback processes
  • Implement strong IAM, networking, service account, secrets management, encryption and least-privilege controls
  • Establish centralised logging, monitoring, alerting and incident response processes
  • Design and test backup, disaster recovery and business continuity arrangements, including appropriate RPO and RTO targets
  • Support secure operation of scheduled jobs, queues, webhooks and critical integrations, documenting procedures and transferring knowledge to the internal team

You:

  • Strong commercial experience across DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, cloud infrastructure and/or cloud security
  • Significant hands-on production experience with Google Cloud Platform and Terraform
  • Excellent knowledge of GCP IAM, networking, service accounts, security architecture and managed database services
  • Strong experience of CI/CD, ideally using GitHub Actions, together with Docker and containerised workloads
  • Sound understanding of monitoring, incident response, backup, disaster recovery, threat modelling and secure software delivery
  • Experience within fintech, banking, payments, accounting software, payroll or another regulated environment would be advantageous; exposure to UK GDPR, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, Kubernetes or GKE would also be valuable

Benefits:

  • Competitive remuneration for a fractional commitment of 1–2 days per week
  • Opportunity to establish the security, reliability and deployment foundations of a new financial technology platform
  • Flexible working arrangements within a pragmatic environment where technical decisions are guided by genuine business and operational requirements
